IAR and Airbus collaborate on the H215M helicopter
IAR S.A. Brașov is an aeronautic company with deep tradition
in the history of aviation, its activity starting since 1925. Reincorporated after 1968,
has mainly cooperated with Western companies, such as Aerospatiale and Turbomeca
in France, Britten Norman in Great Britain. Since 1970,
IAR S.A. Brașov became the only helicopter manufacture
in Romania, manufacturing military, as well as civilian helicopters. Starting with 1978, remains the only worldwide manufacturer of the military version of the Puma helicopter, whose license agreement is signed in 1974. IAR S.A. Brașov has produced and delivered more than 360 Puma and Alouette III helicopters under the license of Aerospatiale (today integrated in the company Airbus Helicopters, former Eurocopter), 830 gliders and motor-gliders, as well as 136 light aircrafts of its own conception.

The Romanian army, closer to the H215M helicopter
The 15-year partnership between IAR and Airbus within Airbus Helicopters Romania (51% Airbus, 49% IAR) has reached
an important stage due to the signing of the collaboration agreement between Airbus
and IAR Ghimbav in November this year. The final exclusive 15- year collaboration agreement stipulates that IAR is the lead contractor for the H215M for any future order coming from the Romanian Ministry of Defense. The collaboration between
the two companies, consisting in maintenance and repair services for civil and military helicopters in Romania and
in other countries, has been a success, which led to the signing of this contract. Basically all H215M helicopters produced by Airbus Helicopters Industries and ordered by the Romanian state will be contracted through IAR. The need for renewal of the Romanian fleet is very
high and the helicopters can be the best solution for the Romanian army. The helicopter can carry 22 passengers and
two pilots, reaching 262 km/h, the maximum take-off mass
is 8,600 kg, and the standard tanks autonomy is 866 km (4 hours and 25 minutes). The climb rate is 8.2 m/s. There are two versions: a long multi-roll 4,691 kg version and a short 4,549
kg version. The multi-roll model H215 can have multiple uses - rescue missions, police missions, passenger transportation, peacekeeping operations and fire-fighting operations.
