Braşov is involved in manufacturing components, assemblies, subassemblies and parts for famous producers in the global aeronautic industry (aircraft structures, electric cables etc) but also for the design and manufacturing of flight simulators in partnership with SIMULTEC SRL Bucharest.
In parallel, IAR SA is involved in the manufacturing of jobs and devices meant for the aeronautic industry, and not only.
The main beneficiaries of the Puma and Alouette III helicopters manufactured in Braşov are: Ministry of National Defense (Romanian Air Forces and Naval Forces), Airbus Helicopters (former Eurocopter), Denel - South African Republic, Air Forces in the United Arab Emirates, Air Forces of Lebanon, Air Forces of Oman, Armed Forces and Air Forces of Pakistan, Air Forces of Sudan (1982-1984), Ministry of Defense of the Ivory Coast, etc.
The Quality System implemented in the development stage until the Customer Support stage
is certified according to the standards SR EN ISO 9001: 2015 and SR EN ISO 9100D: 2016.
IAR SA is an EASA Part 145 authorized maintenance centre and manufacturing centre authorized according to EASA Part 21.
MAIN PROGRAMS developed by IAR S.A. Brașov:
PUMA SOCAT Helicopter
In the period 1996-2005, IAR S.A. Braşov has performed a modernization program for 25 Puma helicopters from the service of the Romanian Air Forces. So, the helicopters are
fitted with modern navigation and communication system and also with an advanced ammunition system. This program transforms the
classic logistic version in a multifunctional helicopter which answers to the operational fight requirements against armoured vehicles, fight against the fortifications and ground staff, search-rescue
in combat, troupes and cargo transportation.
The helicopter is fitted with a multi-role computer, with mission management system, cockpit compatible with night goggles, man-machine interface, a direct weapon system; with systems for the discovery/identification of enemy fight means; with improved navigation and communication, equipment, including data transfer, in real time, from soil and/or embarked stations; with increased surviving capacity on the battlefield.
THE PUMA MILITARY
TRANSPORT Helicopter
It is a program specially developed to answer to the requirements of the Ministry of National Defense for a troupes and cargo transport helicopter, MEDEVAC (medical eviction) missions, according to the NATO operational standards. This modernization is applied on 16 helicopters in the service of the Romanian Air Forces and includes the implementation
of the SOCAT system, without the weapon system. Four helicopters are additionally fitted with the necessary systems for medical eviction missions.
In addition to the SOCAT avionics, this new version is fitted with a NATO compatible radio communication system, IFF (friend/enemy identification system), weather radar, anti-
sand filter and air conditioning system.
The PUMA SM Helicopter
Advanced multi-role helicopter, specially configured to answer to the operational requirements of the E.A.U. Armed Forces, for combat search-rescue missions, fast dispatch of special forces, troupes and cargo transport, air ambulance, fight against fire. This program, applied on
25 helicopters, is the result
of the cooperation with EUROCOPTER SAS (now AIRBUS HELICOPTERS) and other important international companies. The program includes: remotorization with Makila 1A1 engines, advanced avionics, a new more effective automatic pilot, new optional equipment.
The PUMA NAVAL Helicopter
Advanced multi-role helicopter, which answers the requirements of the Romanian Naval Forces for a multifunctional helicopter which can be boarded and operate from aboard the type F22 frigates and perform specific naval missions, including the maritime supervision, search and rescue on sea, anti-submarine and anti-
ship combat, transport, anti- terrorism missions and for the support of the Romanian Naval Force units. So, the helicopters are equipped with hydraulic harpoon, blades folding system, submarine search systems, high- speed electric winch, supervision radar, torpedo launching system, additional drop fuel tanks.
These three helicopters are interoperable with other national and/or NATO forces.
