connection with medicine, balneology has been developed, aiming to take advantage of
the prophylactic and curative action of thermal waters and therapeutic mud. Its purpose
is to prevent or slow down the progression of certain diseases and to improve and treat certain conditions. Balneal treatments use the minerals existing in natural springs (sulfur, magnesium, calcium etc.) as well as the properties of thermal water (temperature, currents, pressure etc.) or mud for therapeutic purposes. Thermal water baths stimulate the metabolism, the secretions of the liver and the digestive tract, helping the digestion.
On the other hand, the water enriched with chemical elements (carbon dioxide, sulfur, calcium, copper, magnesium, selenium, iron, zinc, silicon, lithium etc.) stimulates the immune system and the production of endorphins (hormones resulting in a feeling of well-being) increases. The treatments with sapropelic mud and clay silicone mud stimulate the peripheral nervous receptors, cause vasodilatation and reduce joint inflammation.
Depending on the action of the therapeutic agent, there are certain recommendations for balneal therapy, as follows: in rheumatic, inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis or spondylosis, what
is recommended is baths in sulphurous waters or mud
