Plan to relaunch the chemical industry in Romania
2018 marked a turning point for the Romanian chemical industry. At the end of an extremely complex process to finance this year’s largest transaction in Romania, most of the Oltchim assets were acquired by Chimcomplex.
Endowed with historical symbols, the transaction will be completed in the month of December of this centennial year, celebrating thus the unification of the two most important chemical plants in the country under one umbrella: the Romanian Chemical Company, whose vision is to relaunch the Romanian industrial chemistry.
Transaction of the year in Romania and the revival of an emblematic chemical plant
Strategically planned by Chimcomplex’s leadership team since 2014 and completed in 2018, Oltchim’s asset acquisition transaction amounts to approximately 200 million EUR. The selected financing method was by attracting international investment funds, a procedure that is still used very little in transactions on the Romanian market. An international team of legal, financial, human resources, communication consultants

worked on this transaction for one year to ensure its successful implementation.
Plans for the future
The launching of the Romanian Chemical Company was based on the experience of the Central and Western European countries, where, in order to relaunch the chemical industry, political decision-makers and local entrepreneurs decided
to consolidate it under a single umbrella.
The Romanian Chemical Company was set up as a result of the acquisition of the Oltchim assets by Chimcomplex, with the intention to revive industrial chemistry in Romania. With
top professionals, local natural resources and the industrial platforms available,
all the support needed for
this vision to materialise is
in place. Chimcomplex’s top management announces investments of EUR 117 million over the next 3 years and EUR 450 million starting with year 4. From a business perspective, Chimcomplex, with its two branches, plans to become the most important player on the Romanian chemical industry, with a turnover of over EUR 1 billion in just 4 years. This goal is achievable through complex development programs: capacity increase for the inorganic product plants; the development of new products: for example, the relaunching of the pesticide industry;
the opening a trading company for raw materials, actual products and related products.
