Overview of the Romanian chemical industry: past, present and future
The chemical industry used
to be, before 1989, one of the
main players in the Romanian
economy. With its 3 major
branches – salt chemistry,
petroleum chemistry and
natural gas chemistry -, this
industry used to account for
17% of the total industrial output
in Romania, using local natural
resources and workforce highly
qualified in specialised schools of
all levels.
To briefly compare the figures
relating to this industry in the last v continuous attempt to 25 years:
level in the last 30 years. Investments in this industry are attractive because it has industrial platforms that still exist and have been built strategically, it employs top experts and there is a demand for its products at the national and international level.
About CHIMCOMPLEX – part of the group Romanian Chemical Company

the customers in areas such
as energy, chemical industry, paper industry, pharmaceuticals, rubber processing and plastics, metallurgy, food industry, woodworking and furniture production, mining and quarrying.
Thus, Chimcomplex has become the main Romanian producer of: v chlorosodium products (caustic soda, chlorine, hydrochloric acid, sodium hypochlorite)
v inorganic chlorides (lime chloride, calcium chloride, ferric chloride)

v polyols
v oxo-alcohols.
Around 60% of such products are exported (especially the caustic soda), and the most important markets are Turkey, Bulgaria, Hungary, Italia, Greece, Germany and the Netherlands.
With a full history of over 60 years, of which the last 15

v ethical and respectful way of interacting with the employees, the business partners and the authorities as a basis for building long and fruitful relationships;
v The year 1990 saw the highest production level in chemistry, amounting to EUR 35 billion, from as many as 72 chemical plants that employed 250,000 people.
v 25yearslater,in2015,the output of industrial chemistry was worth only EUR 10 billion, with less than a quarter of the 72 plants still in operation – only two of them underwent a successful privatisation: Chimcomplex and Azomureş.
The growth potential of the chemical industry is huge, and the Romanian entrepreneurs’ confidence and willingness to invest are today at the highest
