Aurelia Vişinescu is the most famous oenologist in Romania, producing special wines, ‘wines with personality’ in Domeniile Săhăteni (the Săhăteni Domains). Always enthusiastic about nature and attracted by the cultivation of flowers, Aurelia Vişinescu chose to study oenology during the last years of the Faculty of Horticulture, being fascinated by the science behind Bacchus’ drink.
She followed her passion for wine and the fruits of her work appeared soon, materialising in a vineyard and winery of her own, set up with the support and upon the advice of her associate, Steve Cacenco. Whenever she is asked how to be a successful woman in a men- dominated field, Aurelia has one answer: “In a world governed by the rules of professionalism there are no women or men, there are only specialists!”
As a result of her studying and acquiring experience in the foreign places that she visited, where she came in direct contact with experts and the latest technology, Aurelia Vişinescu enjoys now international recognition. Aurelia Vişinescu continues to invest in Săhăteni, where an amount of more than
EUR 8 million was allocated for winery modernisation, for technology, vineyard re- planting, while currently the focus is on the development of tourism in the area.
The 82 hectares of vineyard are located in the proximity of the winery, stretching from the base of Istriței Hills, with the village of Săhăteni, 125 m altitude, where the white grape varieties and Pinot Noir are cultivated, to their peaks,
at more than 450 m altitude, along the Năeni and Finteşti communes, where the late- ripening red grape varieties are grown. The varieties that are cultivated are both domestic (Fetească Albă, Tămâioasă Românească,
Fetească Neagră) and international (Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Merlot, Syrah, Pinot
Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon). The winery is located in the village of Săhăteni, Buzău County, 7 km away from Mizil, on the National Road 1B.

Aurelia Vișinescu
has launched a
wine line that bears her name. The Aurelia Vișinescu line comprises different categories for the HoReCa and the retail sectors.
The amount invested in Săhăteni so far is EUR 8 million, both from European funds and from own funds.
Today Domeniile Săhăteni comprises its own plantations in the Dealul Mare vineyard and
a state-of-the-art processing, maturing and bottling winery.
