The NATO Summit in Belgium (11-12 July 2018) was opened with an air parade of helicopters from the NATO Member States, which flew over the new NATO headquarters in Brussels, under the admiring looks of the heads of states.
A detachment of three IAR- 330 SOCAT helicopters from the 95th Air Base “Hero Captain Aviator Alexandru Șerbănescu” in Bacău had the honour to represent Romania for the first time at this event. In order to accomplish this mission, the helicopters belonging to the Romanian Air Force travelled almost 4,000 kilometres over Europe, round trip, with more
bodies and the mission were executed according to the national and international regulations, the Romanian detachment being appreciated for their professionalism. Care was taken to follow the exact steps of mission planning, to identify possible errors in the planning process, to analyse contingency and air safety factors, said Commander Lucian BARABOI, Captain of the 95th Air Base.
A C-27J Spartan aircraft of the 90th Air Transport Base accompanied the detachment and assured the displacement of the technical ground staff, equipped with expertise and
time. Each participant (pilots, engineers, technicians, air navigators) performed his/her role with pride and responsibility, and the mission was completed successfully.

The mission began on Saturday, July 7, with a takeoff from Bacău, followed by stops for fueling and crew rest in
than 20 hours of flight and multiple stopovers.
