Agriculture Minister,
Petre Daea, supports the
simplification of the common
agricultural policy
In view of the preparations
for Romania's Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development,
Petre Daea, supports the simplification of the common agricultural policy (CAP), with emphasis on the framework for the implementation and control of related actions. At the same time, Petre Daea advocates a simplified policy in which bureaucracy should be reduced, an overlap between rural development and other measures under the CAP should be avoided and farmers could have open options for environmental measures.
In fact, in a meeting with his Croatian counterpart, Tomislav Tolusic, Daea reaffirmed support for external convergence of payments - a highly ambitious project launched by Commissioner Hogan, aimed
at closing the gap between Member States regarding the amount per hectare - and non- application of capping. In this regard, Minister Daea believes that the capping of direct payments cannot be accepted.
“We are not in favour of capping but on the contrary, it should be up to each state, so that the states are able to impose their interests

on the background of the general interest at the level of the European Commission. (...) Larger farms are the ones which ensure food security, apply high standards and contribute substantially to the country’s economy”, said Petre Daea.
At the same time, Romania promotes the establishment of the necessary framework for the implementation of the research and innovation outcomes in agriculture, as well as a more flexible approach to financing possibilities through transfers among the types of interventions from both EAFRD and EAGF.
