CURIOSITY INTO TOMORROW’S SCIENCE
Nuyina will serve as a scientific research platform, icebreaker and resupply vessel. It will deliver supplies, equipment and personnel to the three permanent research stations in Antarctica and the research station on Macquarie Island. Furthermore, the ship will serve as a fully equipped research laboratory for a team consisting of 116 scientists. Helicopter airborne operations are designed for sea state 3, while the ship’s tenders can handle sea state 4. The ship can cruise efficiently at 12 knots and it can break 1.65 m thick ice at a continuous speed of 3 knots.
Regarded as a “challenging project” and the most complex vessel ever built by Damen Shipyards Galaţi as well, Nuyina proves once more the Romanian shipyard’s outstanding capability of building high- end and highly sophisticated vessels for a broad range of customers – including business operators and military and governmental entities as well.
