We considered it necessary to register this product with the State Office for Inventions and Trademarks and the first definition was SCORILLOS, between 2002 and 2012.
The fact that a special food was being produced in Topoloveni, without added sugar, from fresh Romanian plums as sole ingredient, attracted the attention of the mass media, which offered to help by promoting us. The first article was very important to us because of the huge reputation as a food expert of its author, Professor Doctor Honoris Causa Gheorghe Mencinicopschi. ‘Professor Menci’, as he was called, had thoroughly tested the product and the tests had proven its positive effects
to the human body. Thus, after
the plums were concentrated
at controlled temperature, in double-walled vessels circulating technological steam, vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients and,
very importantly, soluble and insoluble dietary fibres were found. The presence of such fibres is beneficial to those suffering from constipation – they can solve their problem by eating something sweet and healthy. And since
we are talking about ‘something sweet and healthy’, we have to mention the clinical study that we carried out at the NC Paulescu Institute, which proved that "the Topoloveni plum jam can be
included in the diet of patients with diabetes, with the consent of their treating physician", says Topoloveni representative.
The Topoloveni plum jam, so close to perfection: two Michelin stars
“We have always wanted
to contribute somehow to improving Romania’s image in
the world and we decided to
take part in international food competitions. This is how we got
to the International Taste and Quality Institute in Brussels, which awarded us two Michelin stars – out of three - for the Topoloveni plum jam. It is an overwhelmingly important award, and even
more so because, although being traditional for Romanians, the product was not recognisable to the taste buds of the Michelin chefs and international nutritionists,
and yet for the first time in the Romanian food industry, it received this meritorious prize.
The Royal House of Romania considered that we deserved to
be among its official suppliers. The most important moment of our existence was when His Majesty King Michael I of Romania handed us the certification as official supplier of the Royal House of Romania", said Bibiana Stanciulov, general manager of Sonimpex Topoloveni.
National brand with international recognition
“Because we wanted to continue to promote Romania and to preserve the quality of our Romanian soul, we tried and managed to obtain, for
the first time in the Romanian food industry, the protected geographical indication – ‘Magiun din prune Topoloveni’ (‘Topoloveni plum jam’). This is
a recognition of the product’s quality, of the authenticity, uniqueness and traditionality
of the 1914 recipe. In order to prove that, we needed a lot of work and a large investment
in the factory, because we had to comply with the European production standards. I believe it was the only product that had no opposition or support from the authorities with a view to its recognition.
Thus, in April 2011, Romania took pride in the fact that among the approximately
1500 products of the European Union, there was one Romanian product with an authentic tradition since 1914. And it was not an ordinary product, but
a mono ingredient product (nothing but fresh Romanian plums) without added sugar (in 1914 sugar was not used in the food industry), obtained at a controlled temperature, which allowed the preservation of
all the positive effects of fresh plums. Numerous international awards have been won for
the taste and the beneficial qualities. All these awards
have placed Romania on the world map from a gastronomic point of view and consequently from a cultural point of view", concluded Bibiana Stanciulov.
